DANIELS CANYON SCHOOL

SELF-REPORTED INDICATORS

Schools may choose to describe up to two additional pieces of information about how their school is supporting students. These self-reported indicators are not factored into school accountability calculations but provide the opportunity for schools to highlight successful programs or practices in addition to the indicators included in school accountability.

INSTRUCTIONAL FACTORS

Improvement of Reading Achievement Scores for All

Daniels Canyon Elementary is currently focused on improving all components of Tiered Literacy Instruction and achievement. PLC teams are collaborating on Tier I instruction of essential literacy skills to ensure mastery for all students. Teachers work collaboratively to provide Tier 2 instruction in order to reteach or enrich students. Students meet in WINN (What I Need Now) groups weekly. Currently 25% of the staff are enrolled in courses to obtain their reading endorsement. At Daniels Canyon Elementary we have sharpened our focus on Tier 3 instruction. Students who are not performing well on DIBELS screening tests are each given a core phonics survey and put into intentional skill groups. Data is collected weekly and reviewed every three to four weeks with PLC teams. Groups are adjusted as needed. Benchmark Advance, our new curriculum, is raising the level of rigor in language arts for our students. Reading themes are aligned across the school. Students are annotating text, writing, and reflecting daily on content read. In addition 25% of the staff are enrolled in reading endorsement classes to improve instruction in literacy. Program evaluation is ongoing using data from PLC teams, intervention, and DIBELS assessments. RISE scores will provide final program evaluation.
