West High School made a concerted effort to identify students who are proficient in all four categories of the proficiency within the four standards. We also identified students who are deficient in one or more categories of the college and career readiness strands with the intent to focus on individual success within these four standards. 99% of the 2018 senior class participated in the ACT and achieved a combined average composite score of 19.4 with three students achieving a perfect composite score of 36. We experienced significant academic increases in nearly all subcategories of our demographic breakdown. State data placed West High 1st in Language Arts, 2nd in Mathematics, and 4th in Science as compared to 20 most comparable schools to WHS. Proficiency levels rose to 5 year high with 45% - Language Arts, 40% - Mathematics, and 36% - Science. The school had 526 Advanced Placement candidates with 1,041 total exams taken at a pass rate of 68.5%. 275 students sought experiences with our International Baccalaureate Program and participated in 681 exams, completed a 75.77% pass rate, 1 IB Career Certificate, and 65 IB Diploma Awards. West High School has 19 National Merit Semi-Finalists and two Commended Scholars in the class of 2019 and 1 of 100 National Presidential Scholars in the nation.
