Schools may choose to describe up to two additional pieces of information about how their school is supporting students. These self-reported indicators are not factored into school accountability calculations but provide the opportunity for schools to highlight successful programs or practices in addition to the indicators included in school accountability.


Close Learning Gaps Between Disaggregated Groups

Ensign''s 2016 K-2 End-of-Level Tests and SAGE math proficiency was 74%, increasing by 10% from the prior year. However, the 2016 dis-aggregated data shows the proficiency rate for ethnic minority students at 48%. In order to work to address this achievement gap a new math program was adopted and teachers participated in professional development in order to learn how to best utilize the new program. In addition to the new program teachers were instructed on how to make Mathematics culturally relevant for all students in order to increase student engagement in their work.


An Inclusive School Community for All

In order to ensure that all community members feel welcome at Ensign Elementary an Equity Team was developed which consisted of staff and community members. The team administered a cultural competency survey and then addressed the results through a series of cultural competency conversations. In addition the team started the “Know Your Neighbor” program which brought speakers into the school in order for them to share their culture and experiences with the students. The librarian also put together a list of multicultural books for the teachers to use as a resource as they completed their cultural awareness work.
