Schools may choose to describe up to two additional pieces of information about how their school is supporting students. These self-reported indicators are not factored into school accountability calculations but provide the opportunity for schools to highlight successful programs or practices in addition to the indicators included in school accountability.


Interest & Talent Exploration

100% of students had the opportunity to participate in an interest based cluster of their choice for a 12 week in depth study learning about careers in this field (Type 1), skills that professionals would need to have in this area (Type 2), and created a service or project at the end culiminating their experience (Type 3). Students were surveyed along with teachers for interests and talents they would like to pursue. The results of these surveys are tabulated resulting in a list of clusters based in the highest interest areas. During these twelve weeks students in grades 7 - 9 chose and worked in multi age groups exploring one of the following 11 topics/clusters: 3D Printing & Design, Artist in Training, Cosmetology Cluster, Design, Build, and Use: Engineering, Forensic Science, Healthy Eats and Treats, Medical Sciences, Movie Direction & Production, Quilting Quest, Tales from the Deep, & Where in the World?, and becoming an Educator. Students in grades 4-6 chose and worked in multi age groups exploring one of the following 8 topics/clusters:Screenprinting, Great Outdoors, Do It Yourself rebuilding of old furniture, World Exploration, Cooking in the Kitchen, Becoming an author, and Animal Sciences. Students in grades 1-3 produced a survey list of 8 choices including Study of Colors, Drawing/Painting, Games & Puzzles, Holiday Kindness, STEM, Sports Scientists, and teling stories with Puppetry.


Individualized Learning Environment - Goal Setting

North Star Academy has a goal of insuring 90% of all students will set, record, and submit personal goals twice a year. NSA was able to exceed this goal during the 17-18 school year whereby 355/360 students in elementary set, recorded, and submitted personal goals twice a year (99%) and 153/164 students in ms set, recorded, and submitted personal goals twice a year (93%). Therefore, 97% of all students in grades K-9 set two goals during the year communicating them with both parent and teacher during the school year.
