Schools may choose to describe up to two additional pieces of information about how their school is supporting students. These self-reported indicators are not factored into school accountability calculations but provide the opportunity for schools to highlight successful programs or practices in addition to the indicators included in school accountability.
Student Support at Ensign Elementary
At Ensign Elementary we pride ourselves on supporting students from all backgrounds. We have a robust support system in place for students to make sure that all students are receiving the help they need, if they are below grade level, on grade level or above grade level. Since March 2020, we have been able to provide 745 individual intervention sessions in small groups or one on one with a staff member. These are on top of small group instruction with the student’s teacher which happens weekly at the classroom level. These opportunities are extended to all students regardless of their academic level but based on where there may be a gap in their knowledge.
Student Engagement and Supprt at Ensign Elementary
At Ensign Elementary we focus on building strong relationships with students through our classroom practice. In order to do this we utilize Kagan Structures to get to know and engage our students. Each teacher uses Kagan structures daily in their classroom. These activities give our students expectations on how to work with each other in a positive way and allows them to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe, thoughtful manner. We also utilize a daily mindfulness activity during morning announcements and throughout the day in each classroom to ensure that all students are mentally and emotionally prepared for their learning. Over the course of the 2020-21 school year students have participated in over 150 mindfulness activities as a part of their curriculum at Ensign Elementary.
